The scene depicts the crimes of Sextus Varius Avitus Bassianus (AKA Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, AKA Elagabalus, AKA Heliogabalus) as depicted as the damage done by a snail to some flowers. Beyond this I have little explanation other than to say that the title appealed to me.
